Prenatal/Postnatal Massage and Bodywork

“When the heart speaks,
Its whispers can be heard
Across time and distance.”

– Emily Dickinson

Self-care is never so important as during Pregnancy. Modern inviestigation and research is proving that prenatal and postnatal massage and bodywork can be a very instrumental ingredient in a woman’s prenatal care. Studies indicate that massage therapy and bodywork such as craniosacral therapy during pregnancy can reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches and joint pains, and improve labor outcomes and newborn health.

Studies done in the past 10 years have shown that hormone levels associated with relaxation and stress are significantly altered, leading to mood regulation and improved cardiovascular health, when massage therapy was introduced to prenatal care. These changes in hormone levels also led to fewer complications during birth and fewer instances of newborn complications, such as low birth weight.

Prenatal massage can produce a reduction of swelling. Prenatal bodywork helps to stimulate soft tissues to reduce collection of fluids in swollen joints, which also improves the removal of waste tissue, carried by the body’s lymph system.

Prenatal bodywork can significantly reduce or eliminate sciatic nerve pain. Bodywork addresses the inflamed nerves by helping to release the tension on nearby muscles. Craniosacral therapy is also helpful in balancing the pelvic floor.

Postnatal bodywork, particularly craniosacral therapy can provide both mother and baby with a deep nurturing bonding experience following the rigorous work of labor and birth.

Pediatric craniosacral therapy can begin at birth and continue on throughout all the developmental stages of a childs growth.

Sara is Certified in both Prenatal Massage and Pediatric Craniosacral Therapy.

“Prenatally, Sara helped my body relax and connected with our baby even in the womb. Right after our daughter was born, Sara even came to the hospital and helped us both bond and unwind. Sara and her work have been absolutely transformational for our family!”
